Working on Witness to the Moon this week.
I’m very happy with my numbers today. Admittedly, maybe 300 words give or take is notes. I’m back to the way I used to write. I’ve read so many different styles and have tried a lot of different methods. I’ve done the outlining, the not outlining and I am noticing that I still tend to jot notes down at the end of my MS’s as I write, which are story details to include. I may jot a quick note to myself about where I was at so that if I’m leaving writing in the middle of a thought, I can pick that thought up quicker when I come back to the story. Especially helpful when I have been away from the story for a while.
I’m neither an outliner or nonoutliner (pantser as writers say) since it really depends on the story. I do different methods depending on different stories. Just like my style. What happened with Trust Your Instincts was very different from my normal writing style. I do different writing also depending on the genre I’m writing.
Since I’m close to the 60K mark, which is where Kennedy is at, you’ll remember that I mentioned I like to switch back and forth at that time. That way the books I’m working on are all at similar areas in word count. It’s probably more anal than an actual NEED, haha. I just like having it in similar placement for the word count. Then I feel I’m making progress on both of them at once. There is no reason to do it. Just something I enjoy. I’ve done it since the beginning of my career, before I self-published near the end of 2012.
Here is a very random piece of information and links. I’ve often mentioned that I listen to Classical music while I cook dinner, and as I am right now. Our Classical station can be listened to online and this is KING FM (http://ift.tt/1Rcke7a) live if you’d like to have it on in a browser. One of my top stations of all time. That and the Stephen King Radio (http://ift.tt/1eX1r8H). The SK Radio also has an app to download on Android. I have it on my Phablet too. ;)
Anyway, back to my writing. I’m back on progress for Daughter of the Red Planet (Guardian of Life series – Book One – SciFi Horror), and I have to say that going back to using the old laptop and writing on my bed (or in this case, editing) has benefited me a lot. I’ve been getting a lot more work done because my back isn’t bothering me as much, I am not having to worry over my hands (I sit at the perfect angle for wrists and hands in this position) so my edits have been picking up. I also don’t get the same amount of headaches and eye strain sitting in this position. That is a vedy good thing. Bunch of goodness all around! I have the release date on DotRP for August, but there is a good chance I could bump that up if my edits really do pick up working this way. It’s easier for me to write on my bed too so that’s always a win.
Word count I started the day with: 59,648
Worked from 10:30AM – 11:20-ish. Ended the day at: 61,550.
Goal for this book is around 90K.
